The Judge Shuraik
An Arabic / Islamic story retold by Mouaad Al-Hunaishel

Arabic

There was a judge named Shuraik who was the most famous judge in Islamic history. He knew everything, and he knew when someone was lying all the time.

This is one story about him.

There were two men who had a lot of money. They decided to hide the money under a tree outside of the town and no one else would know where the money was except the two. They said one man could not go and get the money without taking his friend.
However, one of them went alone and took the money without telling his friend. The next day, he asked his friend to go with him to get the money, because he needed some. His friend was very surprised when they found no money, but he thought it was his friend who took the money. The friend said, "Oh, no! I did not take the money! I don't know where the tree is!"
So, they went to the judge Shuraik and told him their story. The judge Shuraik asked the suspecious man about the story, but he said, "Oh, no! I did not take the money! I don't know what happened to the money! I don't know where the tree is!"
So the judge Shuraik asked the other man to go to the place where they hid the money and to come back immediately, and he asked the suspicious man to stay with him. A few minutes later the judge asked him, "Why is your friend late?"

He answered immediately without thinking, "The place is so far from here, so he will not come." That made the judge shure that this man is the thief.
